Expressive Typography

The purpose of this project was to convey the meaning of four words using only typography. The goal was to not only enhance the meaning of each word, but to achieve a clever and aesthetically pleasing look.

Windy

To convey the word windy, I positioned the letters ‘i’, ‘n’, ‘d’, + ‘y’ to appear as if they were blowing away from the grounded ‘w’.

Negative

To convey the word negative, I created an ‘E’ in the negative space between the ‘N’ + ‘G’.

Stopped

For this word I positioned the letters up against the right end of the artboard to make them appear as if they were jammed up against a door.

swoosh

For most people, the word ‘swoosh’ is instantly paired in their minds with Nike. Wanting to play off of this common association, I positioned the letters in a way that made it appear as if they were created the shape of the Nike Swoosh Logo.
